Back to work with first week of training

Note: Kellon Thomas is a junior on the Kent State men's basketball team and is working for the Athletics Communication department during the Summer to fulfill a requirement of his Practicum I in Sport Administration course. As part of this course, Kellon will be doing a weekly blog to give fans an inside look at how the Golden Flashes are preparing for the 2014-15 season
This was our first week back on campus and our team got right back into things. We have a total of 12 guys here right now. Gary Akbar and Raasean Davis are the only newcomers while everybody else was here for the spring workouts. Our training schedule for the summer keeps us busy with lifting 4 days a week and then conditioning and team-building activities on Fridays. Additionally, we have individual workouts 3 days a week to work on basketball skills.

Personally, I feel good about the first week and the progress we have made. My knee and body are doing a lot better. I get treatment once or sometimes even multiple times a day to make sure I stay healthy. After being forced to the sideline as a spectator last summer, it feels great to be able to go through the off-season grind with all of my teammates. Everybody on our team knows that this summer must be a big one for us to have the type of season we expect next year and I think taking that approach will allow us to get back to playing Kent State Basketball.

  1. Kellon, thanks for posting the information. When you say 12 guys are on campus this summer, are those 12 Brewer, Thomas, Manley, Flemming, Vedder, Ortiz, Spicer, Hall, Lawrence, Jackson, Akbar, & Davis? Leaving Brown, Edwin, Pollard, & Jones to join the team in summer session III? Glad to hear that you are healthy and fully recovered from the knee injury last year. Good luck this season!

  2. Ryan-

Sorry for the delayed response, but you are correct about the 12 guys on campus right now. I am not sure if all the others will get here for the final summer session. Thanks for your support!
